Sledtours
... organises sleddogtours in wintertime where you can enjoy a tour
as a passenger in one of our reindeerskin-clad sleds; if you wish,
however, you can also experience what it feels like to steer a sled
yourself like a true musher.
Singles, couples, families, companies and organizations are all
welcome: we try to have something for everyone. Hopefully you will
find a tour to your liking on this page. If you have any questions feel
free to contact us, preferably by email. We speak English.
Please bear in mind that especially the longer tours tend to sell out
quite fast... don’t wait too long with booking. Furthermore: for some
activities there is a minimum age. We strictly adhere to those limits!
Hike Huskytours....
This activity suits everyone from 0-99 years of age. You are all very
welcome whenever we are in Branäs. Our dogs love being on
Branäsmountain because they know from experience that the place
is always filled with doglovers who excel in caressing, cuddling and
whispering sweet words into fluffy husky-ears.
Don’t forget to bring your camera!
Good to know:
•
You always take part in our activities at your own risk. (Our
huskies are quite able to lick you to death :-)).
•
Our huskies are very social, they can all be cuddled, with no
exception.
•
Remove your skis and don’t bring along your skipoles. The
huskies are attached to the stake-out with a short line: you
will frighten them if you run at them or make large or sudden
gestures.
•
Dogs have a very sensitive hearing, they really dislike
shouting.
•
Smoking, eating and drinking in proximity to the dogs is not
allowed.
Season:
week 52 – 14 (Christmas till beginning of april)
Time and prices:
•
Every wednesday, friday and saturday from about 09.30 to

Always dreamt of a sleddogtour through a white
winterwonderworld? Take a seat on one of our reindeerskin-clad
sleds, pulled by enthousiastic huskies who just want one thing: run!
For these tours we usually use our larger sleds which can bear a
maximum of 250 kilos, and are pulled -depending on circumstances-
by between 8 to 12 huskies.
Afterwards you will of course have the opportunity to thank the dogs
for their work.

Evening tour
about 45 minutes (Branäs)
Take a seat as a passenger on one of our sleds or steer a sled, pulled
by 3 or 4 eager huskies, all by yourself!
Experience with mushing is not required... just the will to try
something new and very special.
On this tour you can take a ride as a passenger on a sled steered by a
guide, or you can steer a sled yourself with your spouse, friend or
child(ren) as passenger. You can change places so everyone who
wants to can have a go at steering
.
About the tour:
We start with introducing ourselves and our dogs. With Hike
Huskytours there is always at least one person who speaks English.
We walk you through the equipment and give you clear and thorough
instructions on the do’s and don´ts of dogsledding (mushing).
Then the moment has arrived to line up the dogs for the sled. So far
they have been following our doings closely and making their consent
clearly known, but now they burst out in a nearly deafening hollering
and howling out of pure enthusiasm. Luckily this doesn’t take very
long: as soon as we lift the snowanchor and release the brake
(softly!) they fall quiet and we glide through a silent white
winterworld with the dogs running happily in front of us. The guide
has the foremost sled, the participants follow (overtaking each other
is strictly forbidden!)
The trail is about 2 kilometers long; after each round you can switch
from steering to being passenger or vice-versa, so that everyone (as
long as they are over 18 years of age) has the opportunity to
experience what it feels like to be a musher.
The guides sled can take about 250 kilos, so most families can enjoy
the ride all together. Kids usually can choose every round with whom
they want to ride.
Good to know:
•
You always take part in our activities at your own risk.
•
To steer a dogsled requires a minimum age of 18 years.
•
There are not many companies who offer the opportunity to
steer a sled yourself as a relatively short activity. One of the
important reasons for this is that a definite risk exists for the
wellbeing of the dogs. The guide therefore determines who of
the participants is deemed able to steer a sled. This decision is
final and not subject to discussion! We want to be able to
ensure the safety of both our guests and our dogs..
•
The use of alcohol or other drugs, in advance of or during our
activities is not allowed. Please also refrain from smoking in the
vicinity of the dogs: they have a very sensitive sense of smell
and really dislike the stench of smoke.
•
Warm and windtight clothing, gloves and a hat or cap of some
kind are important: it can get quite cold on Branäsmountain and
you will be sitting still on the sled.
•
When it snows or there is a strong wind, wearing (ski)glasses is
advisable.
•
Skiboots are NOT allowed.
•
Do not forget to bring along your camera and spare batteries.
Keep them close to your body: low temperatures very rapidly
degrade the capacity of batteries.
Season:
Week 52 – 14 depending on snow- and trailconditions.

Steer a sled all by yourself
about 1 hour (depending on number of participants) (Branäs)
Experiencing how it feels to steer a sled, pulled by eager huskies, is
definitely something an exotic and unique. This activity combines
our popular “steer a sled yourself” activity with a longer tour of
about 45 minutes!
First learn the basics of dogsledding on an easy trail of about 2
kilometers. Then we will make a long, adventurous tour through
the enchanting winterworld of Branäs. Those who want to, and are
deemed capable by the guides, can steer a sled during this long
tour also. Passengers can ride on the sled(s) of our guide(s).
Children will get several opportunities to change seats.
Experience with dogsledding is not required, just the will to try
something new and very special.

When we have practised enough, it is time to return and prepare
for the ‘real work’: a long tour of about 45 minutes through the
wilderness beyond Branäs. There are several options: going along
for the ride as a passenger, steering a sled yourself or both: along
the route you can trade places.
It is always the main guide who decides who is deemed capable of
steering a sled; we want to minimize the risk for the wellbeing of
our dogs and damage to our equipment (see more below). The
long trail on Branäs is not an easy one and makes quite some
demands on the mushers. We look at, among other things, for: a
good mental and physical condition, a good sense of balance, a
well developed sense of responsibility and the insight not to
overestimate your own capabilities.
For safety reasons there is also a guide on a snowscooter following
along on the long tour. (Going along as a passenger on the
snowscooter is not possible, by the way).
Afterwards there is ample opportunity to thank the dogs and
reward them with a cuddle!
